Standard precautions

Patients' blood, urine, feces, phlegm, pus, bodily fluids, etc. are all treated as infectious materials. When handling specimens or when there is a possibility of contamination during medical or nursing procedures, we wear masks, gloves, aprons, etc. This is to protect medical staff and prevent them from transmitting the virus to other patients.

Hand hygiene

Washing away microorganisms on your hands and fingers and disinfecting them can help prevent infection. For this reason, medical staff should proactively practice hand hygiene in all situations. Patients should also wash and disinfect their hands frequently during their stay in hospital, such as when entering and leaving their hospital room, before meals, and after using the toilet.

Cough etiquette

Cough etiquette means covering your mouth and nose with a mask, tissue, handkerchief, sleeve, etc. when coughing or sneezing to prevent spreading infectious diseases to others. There are many infectious diseases, such as COVID-19 and influenza, that are transmitted by droplets from coughing and sneezing. Please let us know if you have symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, or discomfort. In addition, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the hospital, please wear a mask when talking to fellow patients or staff in your room, or when going outside the room.

Contact Precautions

If a patient is found to have drug-resistant bacteria or infectious gastroenteritis pathogens that can be transmitted through contact during medical or nursing care, we will implement contact precautions in addition to standard precautions.
Contact precautions are a method of wearing gloves and aprons before entering the patient's room. Since pathogens that can be transmitted to others through contact can be present anywhere in the room, we wear gloves and aprons even if we do not directly touch the patient.
Patients subject to contact precautions may be moved to a private room to reduce the risk of transmitting pathogens to other patients or places.
However, since the number of private rooms is limited, it may not be possible to move to a private room. In that case, a patient subject to contact precautions may share a room with other patients. You will not be infected with pathogens just by being in the same room as a patient subject to contact precautions.
However, pathogens can attach to your hands and fingers and be transferred to other patients and their families in the same room. To prevent this, we implement strict infection prevention measures such as the following.

Thoroughly wipe down the patient room
Wash or disinfect hands when entering or leaving the patient room
Wear protective gear such as gloves, masks, aprons, and gowns

Testing after a needlestick injury

During medical procedures and nursing care, staff may become contaminated by the patient's blood, etc. (e.g., needle prick cuts, eye mucosa contamination, biting, scratching, etc.) In this case, to protect the health of staff from infection accidents, blood will be taken from the patient and tested for infectious diseases (e.g., HBV, HCV, HIV, etc.). The hospital will cover the cost of the test. We will explain the procedure to the patient before taking the blood sample and try to obtain their consent, but if there is not enough time or the patient's doctor is not present, we may explain the procedure to the patient later and obtain their consent. If you have any questions about this, please ask the ward staff.

---

Infection prevention cannot be achieved by hospital staff alone. It is important that patients, their families, and the various people who enter and leave the hospital have the same awareness of infection prevention. We appreciate your cooperation.

In case of emergency, follow the instructions of doctors, nurses and hospital staff. As a rule, elevators cannot be used during emergencies.
